Coupling Technology - The Competition
An example of groove end pipe coupling.

1. Grooved-end pipe couplings
Since 1923, pipe coupling has wallowed in accepting the same old cumbersome, often faulty, time wasting and expensive grooved end pipe couplings which have presented the pipe fitting industry with various inherent difficulties:
- Mechanical bolted coupling that engages into grooves, indented, adjacent to the end of each length of pipe
- Incorporates a pressure responsive gasket seal.
- Limited to use in the low pressure segment only
at 350 psi
2. Socket Pipes
- Used principally with low pressure piping to
350 psi - Coupling Technology couplings tested to
2,500 psi with a proven potential for 5000 psi
3. Welded Joints
- Continue to be used where mechanical couplings are inadequate
- Hazardous working practices - welding, burns, electric shock, poisonous fumes
- Expensive in skilled labour, consumables and energy wastage
- Slow, technically difficult, bulky and rotary welding equipment on large diameters
- Time consuming - typical welding time 9 hours with cost of £1500, depending on size
- Wasted time and expense with estimated total of £10 billion annually
